December has been a beautiful and eventful month. Eastern Washington got a lot of snow and we’ve been enjoying it almost as much as this guy: We alternate who hosts Christmas each year between my mom, Scott’s parents, and us. This year was our turn again. But would the house be ready in time? We [...]
We are getting very close to being able to call for our final inspection. A point which will be both a HUGE relief mentally and financially.
Construction of our home has been a journey. But perhaps more memorable than the building of our home has been our living situation(s). Even before moving to Moosicorn, we considered ourselves quite the couple of vagabonds. After selling our home in North Bend (finally) we put most of our belongings in storage and moved to [...]
Yet another eventful week at Moosicorn Ranch! I’ll start with an update on the Chipmunk-Dog War. The chipmunks seem to be winning as they continue to expanded their territory more and more into Sadie’s previously defined turf. Their most notable recent conquest has been claiming the interior of the house. Yes, chipmunks in the building. [...]

The sliding door was left open a crack today when a house wren decided to take a shortcut through the building. Unfortunately, the back window was not open. He crashed into it and fell to the ground. The little guy was definitely stunned and we worried that he wouldn’t recover. Hoping for the best, we scooped him up and placed him in a box on the deck. He was understandably still a little shaken and so he didn’t hop out of my hand for a few minutes.
Here’s a brief view of life out on the farm during construction. I shot this quick video using my iPhone this morning to show our humble outdoor kitchen. While it lacks frills, it does everything we need and provides an amazing view. (Not pictured, BBQ Grill downstairs.)
Although we are extremely busy building our home, we decided to try growing a few things this year. We couldn’t resist. So much of our mission at Moosicorn is about knowing exactly where our food comes from and how it came to be. We want to have an understanding and appreciation for our food and the depth of which we are seeking can only be achieved through growing our own.
