Bee Update

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 17 Apr 2012 / 0 Comment

We brought our bees home on Saturday. We set them up in their new hive and filled the feeder with sugar water. Then we left them alone to (hopefully) set up camp. Today we filled the feeder. And although we only barely opened the lid of the hive (so as not to disturb them), we [...]

Honey Bees!

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 14 Apr 2012 / 5 Comments

After much research and preparation, it’s finally Bee Day! This morning, we headed over the WSU extension in Spokane for our the Inland Empire Bee Association tutorial. They showed us how to install our bee package using IEBA bees. This was the second of  several in class and field day experiences through IEBA. Next, we picked up [...]

Game Camera Pics

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 10 Apr 2012 / 1 Comment

I found a spot on the property where several trails converge. In the week that the camera has been up, we’ve gotten some great photos! Several deer, a coyote and two beautiful photos of a mountain lion!

The buttercup is the first flower to bloom in our area. Their tiny, vibrant blooms are a message that spring is here. Introducing Ranunculus glaberrimus:

New Solar Powered Game Cameras

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 29 Mar 2012 / 0 Comment

I have a Primos Truth Cam 46 with an infrared flash, but I’ve been pretty dissapointed with the image quality. Infrared, which literally means “below red”, is just below the the visible spectrum of light. I had always wanted an IR flash because it is basically undetectable. Unfortunately, it produces some pretty blurry night photos. I still [...]

Dorking Chicks Growing Fast

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 27 Mar 2012 / 0 Comment

The Dorking chicks are growing up fast! They’ve already got quite a few real feathers. And our little mystery chick is doing well also. The consensus seems to be that he/she is a Silver Laced Polish. Look how fancy they are! We’re working hard to get their enclosure built. We did a lot of work [...]
