Update from the Coop

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 23 Jan 2012 / 0 Comment

A buff brahma bantam and Bug supervise while Scott cleans the coop. The girls are becoming more friendly every day. Chicken coming at ‘ya! Despite Bug’s appearance here, she is one of the most social of our girls. This is Lita showing off her blue earlobes. What are you looking at? I suppose you look [...]

Livin’ Large in a Small House

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 22 Jan 2012 / 4 Comments

Small by Modern Standards Our home is 1,000 square feet. It feels wonderfully spacious to us, but by modern standards, it’s quite small. In fact, the average home size in US is 2,438 square feet, according to the US Census. To us, though, our “tiny” home is perfect. Although big houses are still the norm, small [...]

January 2012 Update

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 21 Jan 2012 / 3 Comments

Congrats to Vicster

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 15 Jan 2012 / 1 Comment

Congrats to Vicster! She guessed the correct date for our first egg. We started a contest in October of 2011 to see who could guess the date of the first chicken egg. 60 guesses were placed, but Vicster was the winner! For her unsurpassed egg guessing skills, she received an organic cotton Moosicorn Ranch reusable [...]

Wild Apples

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 13 Jan 2012 / 0 Comment

When I realized that the wild apple tree on our property produces tasty apples, I decided I wanted to try canning apple pie filling. Getting the apples down from the tree proved to be more difficult than I had expected. The tree is quite a way from the house, so I loaded the ladder in [...]

Posted by Mrs. Moosicorn on 09 Jan 2012 / 2 Comments

We are very excited to start raising honey bees this spring. We read Bee Keeping for Dummies and signed up for the beekeeping course through the Inland Empire Beekeeping Association and Washington State University. We purchased all of our gear at Tate’s Honey Farm in Spokane. We’re very excited to get started!
