The Name

One day, I was walking Scott through a map I’d drawn of where we should put everything on the property. I said, “…so we’re going to do this here, and we’ll put that in over there, and put this next to that and those right here…”

After I’d explained my plan with ample reiteration, I asked Scott what he thought about it all and he asked, “Where are you going to put the corral for the unicorn?” And to that I said, “Shut up! It could happen!”

When it came time to give our project a name, Unicorn Ranch seemed just right. Problem was, the name was already taken. And not that Scott couldn’t claim the online presence from the original Unicorn Ranch with his clever web genius ways, but it just didn’t seem right considering that The Unicorn Ranch is a facility for traumatized horses and children with terminal illnesses. Soooo, the search for a name went on.

Not long after, while driving into town, a huge moose lumbered across the road just in front of our car. We marveled over how impressive the creature was for hours and retold the story over and over to our friends (sorry everybody). Finally, it came to us: Moosicorn! Half moose, half unicorn. Half awe inspiring native beast, half whimsical symbol of dreams that can come true. And so the Moosicorn Ranch had a name.

Is this just a Moose or is it a Moosicorn hiding its horn? We may never know…
