Guy’s Weekend (Sweat Equity Swap)

Posted by Scott on 15 Nov 2011 / 2 Comments

Alex had to leave me this weekend to drive her mom back from Utah. Fortunately I had a good buddy willing to babysit me with fine beers, good meals and a ton of help on several projects we had in the works.  I helped our friends out several weeks back by working with them to build a deck in exchange for a little sweat equity help around Moosicorn.  A great way to lighten the load and share in the work for both of us.

Here’s the deck we built a few weeks ago:

So this weekend, Erick made it out to help me:

  • Build/paint/install a door on the media closet
  • Assemble/paint/hang sliding door hardware for both bedrooms
  • Muck out the chicken coop
  • Layout lines for the first raised beds
  • Chop and stack a load of wood
  • Play several games of pool
  • Put a couple coats of finish on the new dining room table
  • Cut and weld the legs for the new dining room table (This will be complete this week!)
  • Eat some fantastic steaks
  • Clean out the shop/take a load to our storage piles
  • Drink a few beers
Here he is in action!

All in all it was a great time and quite productive. It’s nice to have company as I go about all the various work that goes on around our place. We hope to do many more sweat equity swaps as we continue to get our infrastructure where we’ll need it to hit our 5 year sustainability goals.

Thanks Erick! (And Sarah, for loaning him out!)

We’ll post more pics of all the projects we’ve completed lately soon!

You are VERY brave people for letting my brother use large, dangerous power tools! Hope all is well, and next time I get out to WA I would love to come see your homestead!

HA! We didn’t actually let him use power tools. He is very talented though, he made the paper machete likeness of himself you see staged in the photo above.
