I did a lot of calling around trying to find a reputable, capable, affordable surveyor. That last requirement was the most difficult one to find! Most companies were way too expensive. Someone actually quoted $20,000! What? I know the equipment is expensive, but come on! Then there were guys who were cheaper, but wouldn’t record the survey and seemed overall a little shady. In the end, we chose to go with Dan Samson from Survey Solutions. His price was fair, he could get it done in a timely manner and he obviously knew what he was doing. Plus, he said we could tag along to look over his shoulder and take photos!
We hiked up here to find the quarter corner. What an amazing view. You can see the barn house in the valley below.
Dan and his pack mule, Scott.
Dan uses these tools the make impressions on the caps of the corner pins. He marks his name and corner designation.
Scott planted fence posts every couple hundred feet to mark the perimeter (pink flags or wooden stakes don’t last very long). In places like this where the trees are dense, we placed fence posts more frequently. We may put some fencing up in a few places, but we want to make sure what ever we choose allows wildlife to come and go easily.
Here’s Dan. If you need a survey and you live in the Inland Northwest, we’d highly recommend him. He can be reached at (509)466-0866
