Consultants Camp-out Coming Up!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/moosicorn/4242629784/in/set-72157623007081713/We are so very lucky to host a camp-out here at Moosicorn June 25th – 27th, featuring some amazing talent in the green/sustainable/design space. For two and half days, Alex and I will be joined by some amazing brains to help us contemplate, plan, design, create, challenge and explore the possibilities we have before us.

Currently we have a very rough idea of a plan, which you can see featured on our Map and Timeline page or on the Idea page.  Now we need to get the best input we can on how to firm this vision up.  We’d like animals, gardens, cottages etc… but what about the impact on the land?  How can they be built the most responsibly?  What design elements will be a pleasure to live with and an inspiration for others?  Well, these folks are here to help…

Lisa Town (Landscape Architect):  Lisa is a remarkably forward thinking landscape designer currently working in Seattle, WA with SvR Design Company.  Lisa has worked throughout the west coast as well as internationally on projects of varying scales from intimate courtyard design to city planning.  Her work abroad includes projects with the award-winning international firms Grupo de Diseño Urbano in Mexico City and Atelier Dreiseitl in Germany where she focused on creating pedestrian-scaled urban spaces and sustainable landscapes that educate, inspire and engage people of all ages. She is truly passionate about sustainability and environments that educate, two major focuses here at Moosicorn.  See more of what makes Lisa so special on her blog at Inspiration Wall or follow her on Twitter here.

Tosh Drake (Architectural Designer): Tosh is a perfect fit for our efforts here at Moosicorn.  He is a sustainable, indigenous, and nomadic architecture buff who has worked with leading design firms in the sustainable environment such as Perkins + Will. He has had hands on experience designing and building off-grid dwellings, earth-ship style architecture, straw bale construction, yurts and cob houses. His work focuses on a deep connection with nature through architecture or what he calls “deep ecology architecture” that imbues culture, art history, psychology and experience.

Cynthia DuVal (Ethnographer): Cynthia is an ethnographer and film maker from Western Washington. She recently returned from Australia where she was working on a film covering the visionary architect, Matt Taylor and the event, DesignShop. Cynthia also writes about Sustainable Agriculture for the Examiner. Find out more about here work at Duvall Ethnographic.

Bob and Bonnie Gregson (Farmers / Authors): The Gregsons are a husband and wife team of gardening experts from Spokane who wrote the book, Rebirth of the Small Family Farm. Their book tells the story of how they went from “two middle aged novices” to making a decent living farming their small piece of land.

UPDATE: 6/22/10

We’ve got a new participant for our consultants camp-out.  I met Alex while judging a green home competition in Spokane and he seemed to really “get” what we’re doing out here.  He’s going to be a great help this weekend I’m sure.

Alex Mann (Planner / Landscape Designer):  Alex is a young landscape designer currently working with AHBL, Inc’s Spokane office.  His professional experience includes landscape design for residential, commercial, and municipal projects.  Most notably, his work with the City of Spokane has included the Neva-Wood C.O.P.S. Shop Low-Impact Parking Lot, connectivity planning for the Southgate Neighborhood, and two projects as part of the Spokane Urban Runoff Greenway Experiment (SURGE).  A recent graduate of Washington State University, his senior project examined the role that grassroots projects play in regional infrastructure planning.  His project “Produce, Place, Patterns” earned him a National Honor Award through the Washington State Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.  You can learn more about AHBL on their website (www.ahbl.com).

Talk to you soon,

Scott and Alex
