A Year of Flux

Posted by Scott on 27 Mar 2010 / 4 Comments

Moving to Moosicorn has not been a seamless process.  For over a year now, we have been living in a constant state of flux.  Now, we are just 7 short days away from landing home, to a place that we expect will feel more like home than any place we’ve ever been before.  And for this we are very grateful.

To make this dream possible we had to sell our home in North Bend in the fall of 2008.  We had a gorgeous place right on the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River.  It wasn’t a large or lavish home, but it was the first home we had ever owned and the location was incredible.  North Bend was a great little town with a couple of wonderful restaurants, was a half hour from Seattle and did I mention we had a river in our backyard?

Yep.  We loved it.

We were lucky enough to sell our home in a struggling real estate market.  (Offered the only real buyer we had seen in 3 months on the market a price that would close out our loan and let us escape the burden of a heavy mortgage and not a cent extra.)

We boxed up the majority of our possessions and scaled down into a one bedroom apartment with our two dogs.  We thought we would be able to handle the close confines in an effort to save for the farm.  We were wrong.  In just a couple of months we had to get out there to protect our sanity.  We’ve lived in 2 more rental houses since then, one of which was previously a drug house, which led to some interesting finds and visitors in our short stay there.  All the while living very sparsely with just enough to get by, everything else in storage.

Once we are finished with construction it will be exciting to retrieve all of our belongings.  Though we’ve decided a good many of them will find their way to Craigslist and Goodwill in an effort to cut out much of the clutter in our lives that we’ve learned to live without.

There are many things we will cherish once again though.  For me it’s our stereo.  I miss listening to great tunes and hearing the subtleties only a a nice stereo can provide.  It’s one of life’s little luxuries I really relish.  For Al, she is looking forward to having access to her art supplies once again.  Being able to create whenever the moment strikes is one of the things Moosicorn is all about.

It’s been a long, educational and challenging  journey.  But, after 3 rentals, a ton of storage bills, and a heap of planning we are finally heading home.  For the first time.
