There are approximately 1600 feet of road from the street to the Barn/House. We needed to build-up approximately 1200 feet of this road a good 4 inches before construction began. We were lucky enough to have a very helpful neighbor with a 12′ road grader, his own gravel pit, and a buddy with a truck. We were very fortunate to be able to source road material within a mile of our property. This lowered the ecological footprint of the job and brought the cost down considerably. Total cost for the 1st road lift: $2,040. Unfortunately, (well actually, fortunately), there is no receipt available for this because it was worked out with a handshake. Thanks Jake! [April 26, 2009]

This project took 280 yards of pit run and lifted the 1200 feet of road 4-6″ in most places. We now have a secure foundation for a permanent road into the property that will survive a winter or two.
